Snap-in Dentures have a unique attachment system that allows them to stay securely in place without slipping or moving around. They can also be cleaned like traditional dentures with a toothbrush and soap. However, they require dental implants to secure them and are therefore not a good option for everyone. There are multiple alternatives to traditional dentures that can be used, and we will go over them all during a free consultation.
In general, traditional dentures slip or move when eating and speaking, which can be embarrassing. They also do not stimulate the jawbone, which can cause bone loss over time. Snap-in Dentures do not have these problems and are an excellent choice for people who want to eat, drink, speak, and laugh confidently.
How long do Snap-in Dentures take to make?
If your jawbone is strong enough to support dental implants, we can perform a surgical procedure in which any remaining teeth will be removed and implants will be placed. In some cases, bone grafts will be necessary before the implants can be placed, and this can add time to the process. Once the implants are placed, the gums will need to heal for about 6 months. During this time, we will provide you with a temporary denture.
After 6 months, we will remove the temporary denture and expose the implants. Small “buttons” are then placed on the top of the implants, and a new denture will be made that snaps into place. We will also reline the new denture so that it fits better and has a more natural feel.
Snap-in Dentures are very durable and can last a lifetime with proper care. They can be brushed and rinsed like regular dentures, but they should be taken out every night and cleaned thoroughly with a brush, soap, or denture cleaner to ensure that bacteria does not build up. They should also be soaked overnight in a solution to keep them clean and free of plaque.
One drawback of Snap-in Dentures is that they do not feel as natural as traditional dentures, and the dental implant connection can be somewhat uncomfortable. Many patients report discomfort that goes away after a few days, but it is something to consider.
The other drawback is that they are more expensive than traditional dentures and may require more visits to the dentist for cleaning and adjustments. However, if you are unhappy with your current dentures or need to replace them, Snap-in Dentures may be worth considering.
